Geology Teamwork Activity
Yesterday in class the Grade 5 students came together and created a "land mass" out of dough. They had to form groups independently, use the student teamwork rubric and the given recipe to create dough. It was a great event and I observed some wonderful teamwork skills. It also taught me that I have to teach how to use a measuring cup...ha! Needless to say, some recipes were a success and others were a wet mess. The kids had a great time getting dirty though! Enjoy the photos.

Learner Profile and Attitudes of the Month: Curious and Inquirer
The definition of inquirer is to look for or gain information by asking questions.
The definition of curious is someone who is eager to learn or know.
This month at ISL we are focusing on recognizing PYP students who are curious and inquirers.
I would like to share a wonderful website with you that fosters these ideas. It is called Wonderopolis and it is truly a great resource. It takes many questions that people have about the world and answers them with text and video. The website is a great way to foster students who are inquirers and curious.

Grade 5 Living Museum
Last Friday for our end of unit celebration the students prepared a Glogster document about a famous peacekeeper. They came to school dressed as their peacekeeper and prepared presentations about their person to share with the school community. Teachers, students and parents joined us for this wonderful even. Here are some photos of our wonderful event! (The first one is me putting a mustache on Martin Luther King Jr! As we say... thirds try's a charm.)

Parliament Field Trip Photos
Our field trip to the Latvian parliament was wonderful. The kids learned so much from our wonderful guide and had so many fabulous questions to ask. I was in awe over the beauty of the building and the items within. I especially enjoyed searching through the "Gift Room" where countries have send gifts to Latvia. Overall it was a wonderful experience and a great connection to our Sharing the Planet unit on Peace and Conflict.
